The Artist is Not Present

I got a terrible flu when i was in my 20's and lived in London, and I got dressed (it was winter) sick as a dog and went to the Tate Gallery for the last day of someone's art show. When I remembered this recently, I wondered who could have been that important? So I wrote to find out, and what came was The Artist is Not Present an essay that appears in the current issue of Brick Magazine. It talks about art as relationship, why it matters, the artists I loved and hated, and a performance video I made when I was 26.

Read the essay here or buy Brick.

I'll be reading an excerpt on July 24th at 6:30PM. Details soon
